About
Biography
Sue White is a professional artist, illustrator and teacher best known for her contemporary, vibrant portrait paintings. She has been painting commissioned artwork for over 25 years. Recently, she has moved more towards Portraiture both Figurative and Pet Portraits, although she is still open to painting a variety of subjects. Portraiture has given her the most enjoyment.
Sue was born in Essex, England in 1967, and as a child took regular art classes taught by her grandmother Elsie P. Langridge RDS, RCA. Throughout her twenties she continued to develop her knowledge of art by travelling the world working in the Design Industry. Over the course of her travels she became interested in cultures and their diversity. She loves to sketch people going about their daily life and became interested in capturing facial character. This interest now includes Pet Portraits and animals.
On her return to England she completed a BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art at the Sir John Cass University, London. In 2000 she went into teaching in a local school and continued to inspire others through her unyielding belief that “if you can write your name, then you can draw, it’s just practice” and “the more you look, the more you see.”
Over the past 20 years Sue has taught Art and Design to children and adults of all ages. She is currently teaching privately and running art classes to the public. During her creative career she has worked in all mediums and will confidently produce high quality Portraits, capturing the essence of the soul and character of her subject. She always starts with the eyes as this helps her to connect to her subject matter. Sue will not allow a Portrait out of her studio unless she feels she has successfully caught a good likeness and personality. She prefers to work in Acrylic, Oils and Pastels on any size canvas or board. Sue takes on commissions from all over the world at reasonable rates.
She is a popular artist, who as well as frequently exhibiting can often be seen painting and sketching in her local community. It is her aim to continue to inspire through her infectious enthusiasm and thirst for her subject. If you would like to discuss a particular painting, commission, demonstration or tutoring, please contact her directly.
Mission
“I aim to provide an intrinsic connection to portraiture and the world around us. I try to enhance the way our emotions are affected through light, shape, colour, texture and pattern. It is important to me to obtain a good likeness and to convey their personality to the viewer. My goal is to inspire others to release their creative soul and create a narrative using visual communication.”
